Are Fall Mini Sessions Right for Your Family?

Fall is such a beautiful time to update your family photos. The changing leaves, cozy layers, cooler evenings—it feels like one of those seasons you want to remember.

But maybe the idea of a full family photography session feels like…a lot.

Maybe your kids are little and you’re not sure they’ll make it through an hour. Maybe your calendar is already packed. Or maybe you simply don’t need a huge gallery—you just want a few beautiful photographs of your family as you are right now.

That’s where a fall mini session can be a wonderful fit.

But minis aren’t right for every family, and that’s okay! Here’s how to decide whether a mini or a full session makes the most sense for you.

A Fall Mini Session Might Be Perfect If…

You want a few updated family photos.

Maybe it’s been a couple of years since your last family photos, or you just want to document this season before everyone grows another inch and looses another tooth. You don’t necessarily need a huge gallery—you just want some beautiful images to remember this time.

Your kids do better in short bursts.

Fifteen minutes can feel much more manageable for a young child who doesn’t love sitting still or being the center of attention for very long.

That doesn’t mean we’ll spend 15 minutes standing in one spot smiling at the camera. We’ll still move, play, snuggle, and interact. We’re simply doing it within a shorter window.

You want something simple.

A mini session is intentionally uncomplicated. You show up, we spend a little time together, and you leave with a collection of images that capture your family.

No need to block out an entire afternoon.

You’re looking for photos for holiday cards or gifts.

A handful of updated family photos can be perfect for holiday cards, gifts for grandparents, or simply putting a few new photographs on the walls of your home.

A Full Session Might Be a Better Fit If…

Sometimes your family needs more time.

A full session may be a better choice if you have a larger family, a child who needs quite a bit of time to warm up, or you want more variety in your gallery.

With a full session, we have more room to slow down, explore, move around the location, take breaks, and let things unfold naturally.

You also have more time for all the different sides of your family to show up—the wild, the silly, the snuggly, and the quiet.

Neither option is better. It’s about what fits your family best.

What Can We Really Capture in 15 Minutes?

More than you might think.

My goal isn’t to spend those 15 minutes rushing through a list of poses.

Instead, I’ll give you simple things to do together that create opportunities for natural interaction.

We might walk together, snuggle, play a quick game, or let your kids explore.

I’ll guide you through the session while paying attention to what your children need in the moment.

Some families might spend more time moving. Others might spend more time cuddled together.

The photographs will reflect your family.

This Fall, We’re Heading to Bainbridge Island

I’m especially excited about this year’s fall minis because I’m trying a new location on Bainbridge Island.

I’ve never photographed a fall mini session there before, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the landscape come alive with autumn color.

I’m picturing cozy layers, little ones exploring, families snuggling, and all of those little in-between moments that make fall feel like fall.

And because these are 15-minute sessions, you can document this season without needing to carve out a huge amount of time from your already busy fall calendar.

Ready to Make Some Fall Memories?

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos this fall, a mini session might be exactly what you’re looking for.

And if you’re not sure whether a mini or a full session is the right fit, I’m always happy to help you figure that out.

My fall mini sessions on Bainbridge Island are now booking for October.

I’d love to spend 15 minutes laughing, playing, and capturing this little piece of your family’s story.

WELCOME

The idea of capturing fleeting, intimate details of the current season of your family’s life is one of my greatest passions. I’d like you to pause right now… and think about what you treasure most about this current season. Is it the way your son looks adoringly at your husband, or the way your daughter’s nose wrinkles when she laughs or maybe the way your baby’s head fits perfectly in the nook of your neck?

We never know what twists and turns life has in store for us, and I wholeheartedly believe preserving each season’s unique details is profoundly important.
