How To Pick Your Family Photo Outfits

Picking your family photo outfits is a very important part of getting your family photos taken. Outfits can impact the overall look and feel of your photos, and coordinating with your family can make your family photos feel cohesive. Choosing the right colors and patterns can make all of the difference! When you choose good family photo outfits, you’ll be able to have stunning and cohesive feeling photos to cherish forever!

Start With One Outfit | Family Photo Outfits

When choosing your outfits, it’s easiest to start with one outfit and build from there, bringing in complementary colors. Starting with yourself can make this easy. Choose something you’re comfortable in, and that makes you feel confident! I always send out a Pinterest link to my clients to help with planning their family photo outfits, and I’m also always available to help put things together as well!

Patterns – Do or Don’t?

Patterns can work well together, or they can completely clash. If you choose to wear patterns in your family photos, try to choose patterns that go well together. Try not to choose patterns that are overly flashy and distracting. Textures can be amazing in family photos and really add to your look! Textures like a waffle knit, lace, corduroy, and knit to name a few! So, if you aren’t certain about patterns that would look well, consider adding in some texture!

Dress For The Weather!

Dressing for the weather is very important when it comes to your family photos. If it’s cold, wear warm layers, such as wool or fleece. If warm, make sure to dress comfortably and allow yourself layers that can be taken off in case you get too hot!

What to Avoid For Your Family Photo Outfits

It’s best to avoid neon colors, logos, and certain hats (like the typical dude ball cap that casts shadows on the face). If you want to incorporate a hat, consider wearing a beanie that won’t leave any shadows on your face! It’s also best to wear shoes that are comfortable and fit you well. During sessions, we are usually walking around and on the move, especially if it’s outdoors!

The same can be said for clothing. Make sure you wear clothing that fits you well. I suggest trying on all of your outfits prior to the photo shoot to ensure they all fit well, especially for the kiddos. We all know how fast they grow, and something that fit them well a month ago may not fit well by the time of your photoshoot!

Stay True to You And Your Family

The most important part is to make sure that whatever you chose for your family photo outfits, that it is true to you and your family, and all of the personalities in your family! If you chose outfits that just aren’t you, you’re probably going to be uncomfortable. That will show in your photos, and we don’t want that! At the end of the day, these are your family photos and it’s important that they portray your family as they are, and that you’re happy with them.

WELCOME

The idea of capturing fleeting, intimate details of the current season of your family’s life is one of my greatest passions. I’d like you to pause right now… and think about what you treasure most about this current season. Is it the way your son looks adoringly at your husband, or the way your daughter’s nose wrinkles when she laughs or maybe the way your baby’s head fits perfectly in the nook of your neck?

We never know what twists and turns life has in store for us, and I wholeheartedly believe preserving each season’s unique details is profoundly important.
